Being a northerner by birth, I'm used to apples growing on trees. Big trees. Before hand, we wondered if would be able to reach the fruit without a ladder. We needn't have worried. The Pink Lady variety, at least the ones we encountered at the Apple Hill orchard, grows close to the ground, on something that resembles thick wooden vines. There were a few branches that extended beyond my grasp, but 90% of the fruit was within easy reach. I even had to kneel to reach some of the lowest branches.
