In the garden
This woman was working with long stakes in the garden of the Schiele's's backcountry farm.
I really like the fact that two elements combined to isolate the woman from the background. First the Minolta beercan, zoomed to 150mm at f/4, limited the depth of field and cast the walls of the farmhouse out of focus. The log chinking is still recognizable, but fairly soft and indistinct.
At the same time, the harsh sunlight causes the gardener to pop from the dark walls of the house. Fortunately she was wearing the wide brim straw hat, so her face is not washed out by the strong sunlight. Notice the sticks she is holding cast a strong shadow on the hat, but the brim prevented any shadow on her face.
