This might be may favorite of this series. It is a rather simple looking photo that actually has a whole lot going on beyond the colorful appearance. The longer I study this photograph, the more things i notice.
First there is the dynamic of brick contrasted with clapboard siding. Then there are arched recesses around the door and windows. Notice the attractive brick work above each recess. There is a transom window over the door, and there is a single sided hand rail attached to the door frame. Both windows can be protected with a single sided wooden shutter. The brick building has an old-fashioned metal gutter system, which appears to run underground into a French drain. I'm not sure what the wooden piece by the street is for, perhaps a planter box? Since it is unpainted, maybe it is a riser to make it easier to mount a horse or climb into a wagon?
