The extra pixels that Sony's new processor provides is a nice feature but the biggest problem I have with the Alpha 100 is the image viewing screen which is virtually useless except in the shade and that's not always convenient. It also needs finer detail for adjudging the sharpness of the image.

A second shortcoming is the reduced exposure latitude compared to film, even slides.

A couple of years ago, I was dead certain a FF image sensor was necessary. Now, I really couldn't care less. Even the A100 is delivering nice crisp 8.5x11 pictures that are indistinguishable, sharpnesswise, from Kodachrome shots. Besides, my lenses, all new Tamrons, are optimized for the APS-C sensor.

You've hit the nail on the head. If I had a wishlist for the new dslrs from Sony, it would be Canon comparable noise reduction at high ISOs, a much, much quieter shutter and much better focusing in low-light conditions. Hopefully, they will deliver. A full frame sensor would be nice too.
