This man was dressed in the garb worn by the "long hunters" that roamed the Carolinas in the late 1700s. He looked very authentic, with tanned leather breaches and a spun linen shirt.
He probably looked too clean, though. The trappers and hunters of that era were known to spend months out in the woods at a time. Cooking over open fires, being drenched by heavy rains and just day to day wear and tear would take a tole on a hunter's wardrobe.
Still, he was an impressive figure. Note the turtle shell necklace and the colorful wampum belt across his chest.
